Prof. Kim Wehle, a Fulbright Scholar at Leiden University and author of the book How to Read the Constitution—and Why, will discuss the increasingly urgent question of whether the United States is in a constitutional crisis and the implications that are reverberating in Europe and across the globe. With each passing day, the new presidential administration is making rapid and dramatic changes to domestic law and policy that collectively operate to enhance the power of the American presidency. Prof. Wehle will break down the key factors that point toward a serious threat to the foundational structure of the U.S. government, how the United States arrived at this precarious moment, and whether the Constitution—and American democracy—is likely to survive in its current form.

Kimberly Wehle is a Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law and Legal Contributor for ABC News. She is currently a Fulbright Scholar in The Netherlands where she is also the inaugural Resident Thinker at The John Adams Institute. She is a former Assistant United States Attorney, Associate Independent Counsel in the Whitewater Investigation, and author of four books, including How to Read The Constitution—and Why, and How to Think Like a Lawyer—and Why and Pardon Power: How the Pardon System Works—and Why.
