185 years of the Freiburg Cathedral Choir

The cathedral concert on the 2nd Sunday in Advent, 8. December 2024 at 5 pm in Freiburg Minster presents three oratorical works in a great arc of tension from lament and petition to joyful Advent expectation and Christmas cheer: the anthem "Hör mein Bitten" by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy is at the beginning; followed by the Advent cantata "Schwingt freudig euch empor" (BWV 36) by Johann Sebastian Bach; and concluding with the Christmas cantata "Vom Himmel hoch", also composed by Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

The performers are Svea Schildknecht (soprano), Ursula Eittinger (alto), Ronan Caillet (tenor), Raimund Nolte (baritone), the Freiburg Cathedral Choir (celebrating its 185th anniversary), the Freiburg Cathedral Chapel and the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Cathedral Conductor Boris Böhmann.
