2nd chamber concert
Sunday, 26/11/2023 / 11:00 AM / Theater Freiburg - Winterer Foyer
This chamber concert is all about the musical diversity of Hungary in the early 20th century. Ernst von Dohnányi (1877- 1960) presents Hungarian late romanticism as well as masterful contrapuntal compositional techniques in his magnificent Serenade for String Trio, op. 10. This is contrasted with a tradition that uses folk music as the basis for musical creation. With this theme, of course, a work by composer and ethnomusicologist Béla Bartók (1881- 1945), who had collected more than 10,000 folk songs, cannot be omitted. His 5th String Quartet presents us with a Scherzo alla bulgarese as its centerpiece and takes us into the melodically and rhythmically intricate world of Bulgarian folk music. Bartók's companion Zoltán Kodály (1882 - 1967) was inspired by Austrian and Hungarian traditional music for his Serenade for two violins and viola op. 12. Experience the multifaceted sound of Hungary in an intimate instrumentation. Violin Ekaterina Tsyrempilova, Rémi Alarçon viola Zsuzsanna V. Nagy Violoncello Dina Fortuna-Bollon
