Music for flute, viola & violoncello
On Saturday, October 12 at 8.15 pm, Camerata Instrumentale continues this year's season of department store serenades in the Kaminsaal of the historical merchants' hall on Münsterplatz. Trios in the relatively rare instrumentation of flute, viola and violoncello will be performed, including 2 fantasies by Henry Purcell, the 6th Trio in E flat major by the classical composer François Devienne and the Trio op. 12/1 in D major by Tommaso Giordani. Two short trios by Frank Michael will be premiered: a very early one from 1963, the Passacaglia in e op. 5 no. 3 from 1963 and one from 2014: the "Freye Fantasie" op. 129b. The latter was written as a tribute to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach on his 300th birthday and refers directly to his solo sonata in A minor, which Frank Michael performs directly before it. Two virtuoso duos complete the program: G. P. Telemann's ingenious Canon Sonata in A major and Heitor Villa-Lobos' "Assobio a Játo", in the 3rd movement a portrait of a steam locomotive with a whistle.
