3rd department store serenade
On Saturday, October 18 at 8.15 pm, the Camerata Instrumentale continues its 55th season of department store serenades in the Kaminsaal of the historical merchants' hall on Münsterplatz. Under the motto "Music in Contrast", the Camerata will perform with the unusual instrumentation of 2 flutes (Frank Michael and Winfried Meier-Ehrat), oboe (Stefan Gleitsmann), clarinet and bass clarinet (David Glenn). The quartet line-up will perform extraordinarily contrasting yet interrelated short works by Purcell (Fantasie-Kanon in Gegenbewegung), D. Scarlatti (Katzenfuge). Schönberg (Infinite Canon in counter-movement for Thomas Mann's 80th birthday), Frank Michael's Maithuna II op. 148 and Aulodie-Capriccio op. 82/4b and the final piece, Concerto comique I in B flat major by the baroque composer M. Corrette. The program also includes trios by J. S. Bach and Telemann, complemented by Villa-Lobos' Chôros II for flute and clarinet and the dramatic Duo in G minor op. 81/3 by Friedrich Kuhlau. On the occasion of Luciano Berio's 100th birthday, Frank Michael will play his highly virtuoso Sequenza I.
