The final concert "Rautavaara's Piano Music: not a dead end" is the examination of the artistic performance within the framework of the artistic-scientific doctorate "A Performer's Perspective on the Piano Works of Einojuhani Rautavaara" at the Collège Glarean.

The program is dedicated to the piano music of Einojuhani Rautavaara as well as works by Chopin and Debussy, highlighting central themes of his aesthetics, including his connection to the Romantic piano tradition, his understanding of virtuosity and his use of symmetry and self-quotation.

Elisa Rumici

Elisa Rumici is an Italian pianist and scholar working in the field of music education and promoting gender equality in classical music.

She performs regularly throughout Europe and has performed at prestigious venues and festivals including Expo Milano, the Fazioli Showroom in Milan, the Italian Cultural Institute in Stuttgart, the Circolo dei Lettori in Turin, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Vittoria in Turin, the Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine and the Gare du Nord in Basel. In 2015, her recital in Óbidos (Portugal) was broadcast on Antena 2, the national classical radio station. As a soloist, she has performed Mozart's Concerto K. 271 in Vicenza, Moncalieri and Crema and Schumann's Concerto op. 54 in Sacile. In the summers of 2024 and 2025, she was invited to participate in the Pianofest in the Hamptons (USA).

As a chamber musician, she regularly works with the Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, with whom she also appeared as a soloist in Beethoven's Triple Concerto. Her collaborations include performances with the Ensemble Diagonal under Baldur Brönnimann and the percussion ensemble of the College of Music Freiburg under Håkon Stene.

Her discography includes Gilda Ruta: Piano Works (Da Vinci Publishing), A Musical Journey (Rhein Records), Francesco Marino: Piano Works (Diapason Records) and a contribution to the soundtrack of the documentary film Foibe, il dramma dei deportati e scomparsi, which was shown at the 71st Venice Film Festival.

As the winner of 27 first prizes in national and international competitions, Elisa has also received numerous scholarships and is currently sponsored by the Cusanuswerk. Her concert project Revealed Virtuosity was awarded the Walter and Corina Christen-Marchal Foundation Prize in 2024.

Elisa received her first piano lessons from Maria Cristina Sgura and continued her studies with Maria Grazia Cabai, Roberto Plano, Stefania Redaelli and Riccardo Zadra. In 2013, at the age of 17, she completed her piano studies at the Conservatorio J. Tomadini in Udine and in 2016 she obtained her diploma in piano at the Conservatorio A. Pedrollo in Vicenza with the grade magna cum laude. She then went on to study at the Accademia di Musica in Pinerolo with Enrico Pace and obtained a Master's degree in piano and piano pedagogy from the College of Music in Basel in Filippo Gamba's piano class in 2021.

In addition to her concert activities, Elisa is active as a researcher. She is currently working on her doctorate at the College of Music Freiburg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Natasha Loges and Prof. Alfonso Gómez. Her work has been published in the journal Analitica and presented at major international conferences and academic events. She was also co-organizer of the Artistic Reasearch in Music conference 2025 in Freiburg and the Feminale Festival in Basel, which is dedicated to the promotion of female composers past and present.

Her teaching experience includes piano lessons at the Conservatorio di Musica in Udine, the College of Music Basel and the Musikschule Konservatorium Zürich.
