Alessandro Scarlatti: "Vepsro della Beata Vergine"

Price: 20.00€

With exciting repertoire the Vokalakademie Freiburg can be heard in the Johanneskirche: Alessandro Scarlatti's Marian Vespers is a work that does not actually exist. It was not until 2004 that individual psalm settings by the composer, scattered throughout Europe, were compiled and published under the title "Vespro della Beata Vergine".

Scarlatti was one of the leading composers of his time, but is hardly known today, and if so, only for his operas. To change this and to bring Scarlatti's sacred music back to consciousness, the Vokalakademie Freiburg has set itself the task of releasing its debut CD with this work in 2011.

The young professional ensemble is now performing the Vespers of Mary in Freiburg for the first time. The individual sections are colorfully performed, sometimes as solos, sometimes as choruses, and are richly orchestrated. All solos are performed by members of the ensemble - a special feature of the Vokalakademie, which consistently delivers high musical quality in both choral and soloistic performances.

Performers:
Vokalakademie Freiburg
Sabine Erdmann, harpsichord & organ
Thomas Boysen, theorbo
Melanie Beck, cello
Mirjam Wittulski, double bass
Frank Markowitsch, artistic director
