An den Schlaf

Under the title "An den Schlaf", Winfried Toll and the Camerata Vocale Freiburg present an extraordinary concert program that illuminates the idea of death and transience in W. A. Mozart's Requiem in D minor from different perspectives.

Winfried Toll places two choral-symphonic compositions alongside the work, which is shrouded in myth and mystery: Verdi's last creation Stabat mater and Alexander Zemlinsky's Psalm 23 "The Lord is my shepherd". These are framed by the silence of Hugo Wolf's songs with the impressive Mörike text "An den Schlaf", interpreted by the young baritone David Rother.

The dialog between the works opens up a subtle field of tension, letting go and calm - created by the Camerata Vocale Freiburg, soloists Siri Thornhill, Sarah Romberger, Theo Rohde and David Rother as well as the Camerata Freiburg orchestra (conductor: Johannes Blumenröther) under the overall musical direction of Winfried Toll.
