"If I were rich one day ..." is how the daydreams of the milkman Tevje from the small Ukrainian "shtetl" Anatevka begin at the beginning of the 20th century. Tevje is a pious, humorous man, but beaten with "a stable full of daughters" to marry off. His three eldest in particular do not want what their father wants, for whom tradition is the only standard: "Because of these traditions, everyone here in Anatevka knows what to do and what not to do and what the good Lord expects of them."
After some initial indignation, Tevje takes it in his stride when he is forced to correct his philosophy of life time and time again. But then the milkman's world comes apart at the seams: the entire Jewish population is expelled from Anatevka in a pogrom.
Since its premiere on Broadway in New York in 1964, ANATEVKA has been one of the classics of the musical repertoire, even in Germany. It is one of the most haunting works in the history of musicals. A tightrope walk between comedy and tragedy, between Jewish wit and heartfelt sadness.
The youth choir at the Christuskirche loves to sing and perform theater. Current political developments are important to the young people, are discussed and are incorporated into all artistic work.
