Annett Gröschner: Schwebende Lasten - Reading and discussion with Carolin Callies

The flower arranger and crane operator Hanna Krause experienced two revolutions, two dictatorships, an uprising, two world wars and two defeats, two democracies, the Kaiser and other leaders, good times and bad, gave birth to six children and was unable to bury two of them. Later, after her flower store was long gone, she had a good view of the relationships of the people ten meters below her from the crane of a heavy machinery factory in Magdeburg and died in time before she no longer understood the world.

In "Schwebende Lasten" (C.H. Beck, 2025), the multi-award-winning author Annett Gröschner tells the story of a century in a single life in a sober and fast-paced manner and, with her unforgettable protagonist, gives a face to those who too often remain invisible. Poet Carolin Callies will host the evening.
