Fractals are a set of geometric objects that are "self-similar", i.e. have scale-invariant properties (B. Mandelbrot, 1975).
With the geometric self-similarity it is possible to build forms that are similar to growth principles of nature and are particularly suitable for designing with clay.
The work runs with the ceramic construction technique (bead technique). One always performs the same operation (iteration), repeating it and connecting one module to another.
This allows to create a variety of complex, organic and seemingly free-grown forms. Thin, uniform clay walls and empty spaces are connected again and again with a kind of "weaving". The forms appear very fragile. But also as with plants and other living beings, these objects stand securely with their static construction, can be dried and fired well, just as stable-looking, thick-walled and angular clay objects.
The course is suitable for beginners and advanced students
