Exhibition "Keep your eye on the planet"

Free entry

Many Afghan women in rural areas are very skilled embroiderers.

The German-Afghan Initiative's project www.guldusi.com aims to give women from Laghmani and Herat in Afghanistan an opportunity to earn money with their skills. At the same time, it aims to ensure that the tradition of hand embroidery is passed down through the generations. People outside Afghanistan can get to know the small embroidered works, enjoy them, be inspired by them and purchase them. When you integrate these small works of art into your own textile work, two cultures are brought together.

The challenge for the "Keep Your Eye on the Planet" exhibition was to incorporate an embroidered eye or pair of eyes into a 60 × 60 cm textile work, interpreting the multifaceted theme. 113 entries from 12 European countries were submitted. The three jury members had the difficult task of selecting 45 textile works, which will be exhibited in the Meckelhalle and elsewhere to mark the 20th anniversary of the www.guldusi.com project of the German-Afghan Initiative e.V. Freiburg.

An exhibition catalog has also been published to accompany the exhibition.
