1685 - the birth year of two people and composers who could hardly be more different. One of them was a true cosmopolitan, the other hardly got beyond Central Germany. The former composed mainly operas and English oratorios, while the latter left an extensive oeuvre of especially sacred vocal and instrumental works. And although both composers lived at the same time, they probably never met.
This is about to change when Thomas Hengelbrock and his Balthasar Neumann Ensemble juxtapose two works by the grand masters of European baroque music in concert: ,,Dixit Dominus" by George Frideric Handel and the Mass in G minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. Two deeply moving compositions, which in very different ways tell of the hope-giving power of faith and the power of God - sometimes very quietly and introverted, sometimes loudly and from the heart.
Program:
Handel, Dixit Dominus HWV 232
Bach, Mass in G minor BWV 235 "Lutheran Mass"
