Belinda Cannone: On a Thin Rope - Bilingual reading and conversation with Tobias Scheffel

Mishkinu, lost and torn, watches seagulls at the port of Marseille - he walked along the railroad tracks from Romania to the Mediterranean. Céleste, just twenty years old, leaves her home to go into hiding in the forest and live with animals. And Jonathan, a dealer driven by fear, hurries across Paris until he finally finds a safe hiding place and an ally.

In her impressive stories "On a Thin Rope" (Edition Converso, 2025), Belinda Cannone takes us to the margins of society and focuses on those who are overlooked in passing: The fugitives, the voiceless, the invisible. On this evening, the French author will talk to Tobias Scheffel, who translated the volume with Claudia Steinitz, about stories that delve deep into the abysses of our time. The German text will be read by the publisher Monika Lustig.
