Best Books of 2025

2025 was a year that knew no grace period in society - from geopolitical flashpoints to the escalating climate crisis and hopelessly overheated election campaigns. This makes an evening in Advent all the more valuable, when we leave the noise of the present outside and turn to the books that have accompanied, touched or surprised us in the midst of all this. This year, our "Literary Quartet" once again brings together four passionate readers in our library in the run-up to Christmas: Director Friederike Schulte, René Freudenthal from the program focusing on politics and literature, René Zipperlen, the formative voice of the "Badische Zeitung" cultural editorial team, and Susanne Schmid, an experienced bookseller from the long-established Jos Fritz bookshop. Each of them brings two recommendations: an American book from the publication year 2025 in German translation - and a personal bonus highlight from the past twelve months. Together, our "Literary Quartet" surfs the wave of current English-language literature and discusses cleverly, full of humor - and sometimes controversially. Anyone looking for inspiration for their own reading list or ideas for special gifts for presents will definitely find it here!
