The Bohemian lands, now part of the Czech Republic, have always been a melting pot of cultures in their more than 1000-year history. Musically, with the compositions of Dvorak, Smetana and Janacek, a unique "Czech" national style emerged in the 19th century - but even before that, numerous famous musical dynasties were active here, such as those of the Zelenka, Brixi, Benda or Kopriva families, whose works were also highly regarded beyond the country's borders.
In our program we will sing a large mass by Karel Blazej Kopriva as the main work: stylistically based on the Viennese school (Haydn, Mozart), sonorous choirs alternate with virtuoso concert arias by the soloists, in which individual instruments (oboe, bassoon, organ) are also used as soloists.
Together with the sing-along choir we will sing a Christmas Magnificat by Frantisek Xaver Brixi as well as versions of the Bohemian Christmas classics ,,Freu dich, Erd und Sternenzelt" and ,,Kommet, ihr Hirten" arranged especially for our concert. In addition, solo and instrumental works by Jan Dismas Zelenka will be performed.
