La plus précieuse des marchandises | The most precious of all goods - Michel Hazanavicius | F 2024

ANIMATION Hand-drawn, the new film by The Artist director Michel Hazanavicius tells of the horrors of the Holocaust through the medium of a fairy tale. During the Second World War, a family living in France is deported to Auschwitz. On the train to the extermination camp, the father throws his baby out of the window in utter despair. The screaming girl is found by the wife of a woodcutter who is collecting wood in the forest during a snowstorm. She thinks it is a gift from God and takes it in. Her husband soon takes the child, whom his wife calls an "angel", into his heart. And in the years that follow, the baby, this "most precious of all goods", will bring out the worst and the best in people's hearts.

MICHEL HAZANAVICIUS (*1967 in France) became internationally renowned with his silent film homage The Artist (2011). He was the first French filmmaker to win a directing Oscar for the film. The most precious of all goods is based on the novel of the same name by Jean-Claude Grumberg.
