Clarice Lispector - Homage to a daredevil by Sebastian Guggolz

Book tickets"She was alone. She was abandoned, happy, close to the wild heart," writes Clarice Lispector (1920-1977) about Joana, the protagonist of her first novel. Published in Brazil in 1944, it made the young writer instantly famous. It was followed by a radical and enigmatic work of mainly short prose, which has just been newly translated into German by Luis Ruby and is often compared to Virginia Woolf, Kafka and Joyce. For Berlin publisher Sebastian Guggolz, Lispector's relevance as an author stands out - as does her stylistic mastery, paired with grotesque comedy, which many try to imitate but cannot match.
In his homage, the new head of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association traces the excitingly unconventional life and work of this favorite author, who was born in the Ukraine and came from a poor background, later lived in Rio de Janeiro, studied law and began a career as a journalist. Selected stories will be read by the actress Laura Palacios.
