Is Kafka really funny?
Yes, in an ironic and subtly humorous sense, with a "metaphysical smile", as his friend Max Brod called it.
In this Kafka memorial year, director Gerd Heinz and actor Charles Brauer would like to show a different Kafka: the life-loving, likeable man who was sometimes simply mischievous. Aziz Kortel accompanies them with pieces of music by Erik Satie, Bela Bartók, Claude Debussy, Paul Hindemith and Nino Rota, which on the one hand comment on the reading pieces and on the other hand musically depict and explain the environment of the time.
