Lecture by Barbara Kurowska and Dr. Nils Köhler
In January 1945, around 350 people fled from Lübchen in Silesia, including the photographer Hanns Tschira and Martha Maria Schmackeit. Their 140 unique photographs were shown in full for the first time in a special exhibition in 2025/26. The curators tell the story behind the pictures and ask: What don't the photos show?
Barbara Kurowska (Research Associate) and Dr. Nils Köhler (Head of Documentation & Research) work at the Documentation Centre Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation in Berlin.
The lecture is part of the institute's own event series "Fluchtwege. Forced Migration in Biographies and Images" of the IKDE.
Admission is free. Registration is not necessary.
