Wednesday, 07/01/2026 / 07:00 PM - 08:30 PM / vhs im Schwarzen Kloster, theatre hall
Price: 9.00€
Since 1947, the Kashmir conflict has shaped the region of South Asia as a practically insoluble conflict between the hostile nuclear powers India and Pakistan. In the 1990s, former US President Bill Clinton even described Kashmir as the "most dangerous place in the world". Since the outbreak of the Kashmir conflict at the end of the 1940s, four wars have been fought over the region, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths. Kashmir is and remains the most militarized region in the world.
Following a terrorist attack that left many dead in the Indian part of the region, the conflict has flared up again militarily, resulting in deadly battles between India and Pakistan.
The lecture will take a detailed look at the historical background and developments of this major territorial conflict. The focus will also be on the dramatic current escalations since the terrorist attack in April 2025. Finally, the speaker will give a prognosis on the future of a region whose conflict potential is dramatically underestimated in the Western media and whose developments are also of the utmost importance for Germany and the EU. - Registration required.
