The Alpine Christmas
Christian Wolff | Narrator, Regensburger Domspatzen, Ensemble Classique
Sunday, 10/12/2023 / 06:00 PM / Konzerthaus Freiburg (Concert hall)
Musical Christmas for young and old - Deep snow-covered mountains, broad dialect, the sound of harp and zither: That's how it should be at Christmas! Quite a few beloved Christmas ingredients have their home in the Alpine region. Traditions and customs of the alpine Christmas characterize the celebration far beyond Bavaria and Austria. And the traditional carols that warm people's hearts at Christmas also mostly come from the Alpine region. With a musical-literary program, which is fed by texts and melodies in Southern German tone, it is possible to get in the right mood for the feast of the heart. Together with the actor and reciter Christian Wolff as well as the harpist Barbara Gasteiger and the brass sextet Ensemble Classique, the Regensburger Domspatzen bring the Christmas story to the stage in an Alpine setting.
Texts by Silja Welte, Jörg Zink and Karl Heinrich Waggerl tell of the Annunciation, the search for shelter, shepherds and the manger, full of contemplation, depth of thought or fine humor. And also the view into the busy pre-Christmas period, into the festively decorated living rooms of the people and on the Christmas feelings yesterday and today mixes itself into the Christmas narration. Traditional carols in their original form and current arrangements take the listener right into the heart of the Alpine cultural landscape. With continuing success, the Regensburger Domspatzen have been bringing this unique Christmas feeling to concert halls around the globe for almost thirty years, keeping an important cultural heritage alive. A Christmas concert for the whole family that appeals to young and old alike and brings the Christmas spirit to life.
