Luis de Olivera, a Brazilian-born journalist, emigrated to Italy, his grandparents' country of origin. When he settled in Barga, a small Tuscan mountain town in the Apuan Alps, in the 1990s, he realized that there was nothing there to remind him of the contribution that 25,000 Brazilian soldiers had made to the liberation of the region in the Second World War in the fight against the German Wehrmacht. He therefore searched for documents and testimonies about the Brazilian missions in Tuscany himself and finally opened a museum on his own initiative: the "Casa Brasiliera".
