"Die Gewerkschafterin" - Film + Talk - In the presence of Eva Stegen, translator of the book to the film
Thursday, 06/11/2025 / 07:00 PM / Kirchzarten bailiwick
Price: from 5.00€ to 8.00€
Based on the French factual novel "La Syndicaliste", the film shows the struggle of an intrepid woman against a supposedly overpowering opponent whose plan to silence her ultimately fails.
After a brutal attack, Maureen Kearney is found traumatized in her apartment. There is no trace of the perpetrator and she only has fragmentary memories.
Initially, the authorities investigate at full speed - because as a trade unionist in a reactor construction company, Maureen (played by film icon Isabelle Huppert) uncovered dubious machinations in the nuclear industry that reached all the way to the top of politics and business. But then clues and evidence disappear and the investigation takes a drastic turn after high-ranking nuclear managers intervene: Maureen's credibility is called into question and she is accused of having orchestrated the perfidious attack herself. She is turned from victim to suspect. It was not until investigative journalist Caroline Michel-Aguirre's research that the investigators' false accusations were exposed. Her book "La Syndicalaliste" became a bestseller in France.
After the screening, you will have the opportunity to talk to Dr. Eva Stegen - the translator of the book The Syndicalist, which Caroline Michel-Aguirre wrote about the case and her research. Through numerous personal encounters with her and "the trade unionist" Maureen Kearney, Eva Stegen has first-hand knowledge of the background and facts. In addition, she is very familiar with the nuclear industry, so that she can show the connections that extend to the present day and to Baden-Württemberg.
Dr. Eva Stegen is an energy consultant at Elektrizitätswerke Schönau, a member of the international Nuclear Consulting Group and a proven expert on topics relating to the energy transition.
The event is organized by Dreisamtal Gemeinsam and the Fundevogel bookshop.
Admission € 8,- | reduced € 5,-
