The visionary and the seer - Marie Jaëll & Franz Liszt
Duo Camille Claudel : Noémie Berz, piano - Kevin Bourdat, cello
The Duo Camille Claudel program takes the audience into the heart of Franco-German Romanticism and introduces two outstanding artists whose deep friendship was shaped by a particularly close musical collaboration: Marie Jaëll and Franz Liszt. Both were passionate pianists and composers who commuted between France and Germany in the 19th century; the political upheavals they experienced at the time are reflected in the sublime lyricism of their music. Their lives were characterized by the search for profound artistic spirituality, and their intensive pianistic studies gave them a unique expressiveness and originality. Marie Jaëll, the visionary, paved the way for psychophysiological awareness and influenced generations of pianists through her extraordinary pedagogical foresight. Her mystical teacher Franz Liszt, the "seer", was always an incomparable source of support and inspiration for her. Our program moves between Jaëll's impressive sonata for cello and piano and Liszt's beautiful salon pieces. It also challenges the common notion that complex compositions such as sonatas and symphonies are reserved for men, while women's works are limited to salon music. "One man's name on your music," Liszt wrote to Jaëll, "and it would be played on all pianos." Through music and writings, we bring these two great artists back to life and invite the audience to immerse themselves in the intimacy of their deeply human voices.
