Lecture and discussion as part of the series “Life in the Anthropocene”
"Western Modernity in Times of Global Crisis" is the topic of a lecture and discussion evening in the series "Life in the Anthropocene" on Thursday, June 25, at 8:15 p.m. on the University campus Freiburg, Platz der Universität 3, Lecture Hall 1015, as well as via livestream.
Detlef Pollack, a sociologist of religion from Münster, will speak about the current challenges facing Western modernity in the face of the climate crisis, populism, migration, and international conflicts. The discussion will focus on what threatens modern societies, where their strengths lie, and whether they can overcome their current crises using their own resources. Following the lecture, Pollack will engage in a discussion with Freiburg-based fundamental theologian Magnus Striet.
The event is part of the series “On Life in the Anthropocene” organized by the Catholic Academy of Freiburg in cooperation with the Günther Anders Research Center, the Studium Generale of the University campus Freiburg, and Theater Freiburg.
Admission to the lecture is free, seating is unassigned, and registration is not required.
