The Cistercians - their history, spirituality and music

Free entry

Until his appointment to the Benedictine abbey in Neuburg/Heidelberg, Abbot Emeritus Franziskus Heereman OSB spent seventeen years as a monk at the Trappist abbey in Mariawald/Eifel, the stricter branch of the Cistercian order.

Singers from the ensemble officium under the direction of Wilfried Rombach sing medieval music of the Cistercian nuns. The focus of this part of the program is a hymn known as "Jubilus Bernhardi", one of the many poems attributed to Bernhard of Clairvaux, complemented by early polyphonic compositions.

The evening will take place in the Liebfrauenkirche in Günterstal, Klosterplatz 6, 79100 Freiburg.

Admission is free.
