Ataya Discussion Series: Asylum, Europe and Solidarity

Input & discussion on the Common European Asylum System (CEAS)

On Saturday, February 7, an event on the new Common European Asylum System (CEAS), which will come into force in June 2026, will take place as part of the Ataya Talks series.

The guest speaker will be Berenice Böhlo, a lawyer from Berlin specializing in migration law. In an introductory input, she will provide an overview of the development of European asylum policy and classify the current reforms from a critical, human rights perspective.

Main topics of the input:

Historical development of the European asylum system

Current situation and outlook for the entry into force of the CEAS in 2026

Human and refugee rights obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights and the Geneva Refugee Convention

Afterwards, the focus will be on a joint exchange. In particular, questions about the underlying values of European asylum policy and perspectives for living together in solidarity in Europe will be discussed.

The event is aimed at all interested parties. Active participation in the discussion is expressly encouraged.
