Drag Democracy 101

Drag Democracy 101

As part of the History of Democracy Day on March 18, Dita Whip is presenting a play about the development of the rights of women and queer people since the German Empire. It not only highlights historical milestones and events, but also critically questions why democratic processes are directly linked to liberal and social freedoms. Have we already reached our destination in 2026? What about reactionary forces that are shaking up our current understanding of values and democracy? Are we moving forward - or backwards?

Before the show and during the interval, information and materials from various Freiburg initiatives and associations from the fields of women's and girls' empowerment, anti-discrimination, queerness, gender and identity diversity and commitment against right-wing extremism can be obtained at various stands.

A cooperation with Fluss e.V., funded by the Stiftung Orte der deutschen Demokratiegeschichte, in collaboration with the Diversity and Anti-Discrimination Office and the Office for Equal Rights for Women of the City of Freiburg.

Recommended for ages 14 and up.

Free admission, donations welcome.

Venue information: Large hall in the Haus der Jugend (barrier-free). The event will be held in German; text and music will be amplified electronically.
