The buttresses on the choir of Freiburg Minster have only been rudimentary for a long time. Severe weathering, which was encouraged by the use of unsuitable stone, led to the almost complete loss of the architectural decoration. The Münsterbauhütte (cathedral workshop) took on the task of creating new ones. All 92 individual stones for the first new buttress on the south side of the choir have now been completed and will all be moved in the autumn to reveal their former size and beauty. In her lecture, Yvonne Faller, the former master builder of the cathedral, explains the long journey from the initial ideas, the discussions with the conservation authorities, the design approaches for the "Gothic of the 21st century" to the realization of the workpieces and the relocation of the new attachment.
