The sound of "Old Russia" - for 94 years, the Russian Choir of the University campus Freiburg has been singing songs that tell of life in old Russia. Of everyday village life, of love, joy and pain. Dance and lullabies alternate with sung legends and liturgical chants. With our songs we give a musical insight into life in old Russia. The songs of the Old Believers are of particular importance. Our repertoire also includes Ukrainian, Baltic and Bashkir songs.

Thus, the diversity and independence of the different ethnic groups are in the foreground and send a signal against any great power ideologies, especially in these times.

As you can imagine, culture associated with the word "Russian" is having a very difficult time at the moment. We are a non-political association of singers - most of them without a Russian migration background - but with a great love for the old songs that our choir founder Alexander Kresling first rehearsed and presented at the University of Freiburg in 1930. We do everything we can to maintain and pass on this cultural heritage.
