A year's wait for a therapy place is too long!

The extent of mental illness and signs of stress in children and adolescents has been increasing dramatically for years. The spectrum of mental illnesses ranges from anxiety disorders, depression and eating disorders to psychotic disorders and complex, accompanying developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders and ADHD.

How serious the effects of mental illnesses are for children and adolescents and their families is shown by the constantly increasing number of patients in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at the Freiburg University Medical Center. Currently, 128 children and adolescents have been waiting over a year for a place in therapy.

The INITIATIVE für unsere Kinder- und Jugendkliniken Freiburg e.V. is highlighting this emergency situation. It is unacceptable that our society ignores children and young people with mental health problems and does not create sufficient treatment places. The INITIATIVE is strongly committed to the construction of the necessary day clinics on the grounds of the Freiburg Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinic.

Around the poetry slam on Sunday, October 12, 2025, and before the cinema screening on Monday, October 13, 2025, there will be an opportunity to discuss the current situation at the INITIATIVE stand from 6 p.m. onwards.
