Épique! (for Yikakou)
Friday, 28/11/2025 / 08:00 PM / Theater Freiburg - Small House
Nadia Beugré remembers her childhood in Épique! (for Yikakou) she remembers her childhood. She thinks back to the place she often visited as a child and as a young adult: her father's village - Yikakou. Her great-great-aunt (aïeule) Gbahihonon also lived there. Gbahihonon was a strong, wise woman who could see into the future. But the village of Yikakou no longer exists. Where houses once stood and fields flourished, everything is now overgrown by forest. Together with the singer Charlotte Dali, Nadia Beugré undertakes a personal journey into the past. The two women wipe and blur the space. They draw traces, send messages with their bodies and pose the question: what remains here, what drifts on with us? They preserve the history of their community and pass on their knowledge over many generations. In Épique! (for Yikakou), the two artists follow in the footsteps of women who have often been forgotten in history. Wise women like Gbahihonon or the fearless buffalo woman Dô-Kamissa. The dance performance makes their and many other forgotten voices audible and visible again.
