"God" by Ferdinand von Schirach deals with the topic: Who owns our life, who decides when it ends, are we allowed to play God and decide for ourselves when our life should end?
The coronavirus pandemic has given new topicality to the question of how self-determined a person can live or die. The aim of the theater production God is to add an artistic level of discussion to this topic that leads the audience to make a personal decision.
In a fictitious meeting of the German Ethics Council (the audience), medical assisted suicide is examined from a medical-ethical, legal and theological-philosophical perspective. At the end of the negotiations and after hearing arguments for and against, the audience (the Ethics Council) is asked how it would decide: yes or no to assisted suicide by doctors.
Since assisted suicide by doctors has not been banned in Germany since 2020, but clear legislation is still lacking, this play aims to use its audience vote to create an opinion of the German population, or at least the theater audience.
