As part of the illustration festival Illu 6 and the exhibition "Kubuni. Comics from Africa" we show the film Aya de Yopougon at the Kommunales Kino Freiburg.

Aya de Yopougon - Marguerite Abouet, Clément Oubrerie - F 2012 - Ages 14+.

Late 1970s Ivory Coast in Yopougon, a popular neighborhood of Abidjan. Here lives 19-year-old Aya, a serious girl who prefers to stay home and study rather than go out with her friends. Aya divides her days between school, family and her two best friends: Adjoua and Bintou, who have nothing else on their minds but secretly jetting off into the bush at nightfall. Things come to a head, however, when Adjoua becomes pregnant. The film is originally a six-volume comic book (Gallimard, 2005) that has been translated into 15 languages and adapted by its creators.
