South Seas" movie screening

South Seas" movie screening

Anne, the filmmaker, and Nuri, the actor, want to spend some time at his mother's house in Israel - come down, chill out, work. The sun is shining, the house has a terrace with a pool. Helicopters circle in the air, sometimes a strange whirring sound can be heard. It's the Iron Dome missile defense system that protects the population from the war, Nuri explains.

The juxtaposition of a concept of security with martially secured borders and a personal space in which borders are tested and softened is the basic concept of Henrika Kull's film: Anne is visiting a war hotspot and yet in a safe bubble. Two people from Germany and Israel cannot meet without history playing a role. The film accompanies two characters in their search for genuine exchange and connection.

Born in southern Germany in 1984, director Henrika Kull, whose films have been shown regularly at the Berlinale and have gone on to win awards, is currently on a research trip to Brazil for a new film project. However, she will be joining us live after the screening to talk about her film and answer questions from the audience.
