Free Art Festival Spring Edition 2026

Frei Art Festival - Spring Edition: workshops and outstanding performances at Studio Pro Arte

The Frei Art Festival brings Edward Clug's masterpiece Radio and Juliet to the stage from April 30 to May 3, 2026. Specially designed workshops will take place in cooperation with Theater Dortmund and the German Professional Association for Dance Education. In addition to an open stage for artists from all over the world, Studio Pro Arte will be presenting a new dance theater piece with children and young people.

The NRW Junior Ballet is one of Germany's elite young dancers and has the opportunity to work with the best choreographers. On the occasion of the festival, the NRW Junior Ballet will present Radio and Juliet choreographed by Edward Clug. The piece picks up where Shakespeare's story ends: Juliet awakens, but Romeo is dead. Set to the music of Radiohead - sometimes sensual and dreamy, sometimes powerful and dark - an evening of dance unfolds that appeals to the emotions and intellect in equal measure.

The dance piece "Reels of Reality", an in-house production by Studio Pro Arte, will take to the stage on two evenings. In this youth dance piece, the young dancers explore the question of how we can shape and change the future. An artistic expression of a manifesto for the future.

The Open Stage of the Frei Art Festival once again brings artists from all over the world to the stage of Studio Pro Arte. It offers a unique opportunity to see Freiburg artists and companies together with international dance and cultural professionals and their artistic works.

The multi-day seminars and workshops with Pia Fossdal and Justo Moret are aimed at professional dancers and advanced dancers and are organized together with the German Professional Association for Dance Pedagogy.

Together with young actors from Lyon (France), the Freiburg Drama School will be showing what moves and outrages them.

Further information on the program, all dates and tickets for workshops and performances can be found on the website www.freiartfestival.com.
