Freiburger Andruck 25|1: Dietmar Dath

The first event in this year's "Freiburger Andruck" reading series will feature author, journalist, translator and Reinhold Schneider Prize winner of the City of Freiburg Dietmar Dath. With "Skyrmionen. Or: A Fucking Army", he adds an almost 1,000-page novel to his horizon-expanding oeuvre, a thriller, cabinet of curiosities and journey into the unknown all rolled into one.

When Renate Hofer falls into a water tank that is cleaning the ventilation of a huge data storage facility, she is not only scared to death, but also has an epiphany: she is going to build a machine unlike any that has ever been built before to overcome the computer age and all its impositions. To implement her plan, Renate recruits the bravest and cleverest from the fields of physics and art, linguistics and financial trickery: a whole fucking army. With her, Renate sets about building a new, better world out of the tiny vortices that have the same name as this novel: skyrmions.
