Thursday, 07/11/2024 / 05:30 PM / city of Freiburg
The City of Freiburg and the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation are holding a joint memorial event to commemorate those persecuted and murdered in the November pogroms of 1938. They are inviting people to the old synagogue square.
The commemorative event begins with a welcome address by First Mayor Ulrich von Kirchbach. This will be followed by five short statements on the question: "What does the pogrom night mean for me today?" Wilhelm Schwendemann from the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation, Irina Katz from the Jewish Community of Freiburg, Ruth Geiss-Friedlander from the Egalitarian Chawurah Gescher Freiburg, Chava Gitler from Chabad Lubavitch Freiburg and Thomas Richter from the Working Group of Christian Churches in Freiburg will speak.
Afterwards, young people will lay stones on the edge of the synagogue fountain in memory of the persecuted and murdered Jews of Freiburg, and Cantor Moshe Hayoun from the Jewish Community of Freiburg will pray Kaddish and El Male Rachamim. Saxophonist Mike Schweizer will provide the musical accompaniment to the memorial service.
