Greenmotions Film Festival: L'Arbre de l'Authenticité (OmeU)

The Greenmotions Film Festival will be opening its doors to you again this year. From November 5 to 9, we invite you to exciting films, discussions and encounters at the Kommunale Kino. Every year we dedicate part of our program to a special question. This year's special theme is: "Closing the loop: living within planetary boundaries". We look forward to showing you films that shed light on how we can move from a linear to a circular way of life that conserves our planet's resources and can thus exist in harmony with our environment. In Yangambi, a biological research station from the Belgian colonial era, scientific records of nature in the Congo Basin are found. Among other things, they show how trees react to climate change. The Congolese rainforests play a central role in the global climate balance: "My children will become workers in a new climate economy," whispers Lileko, the tree of authenticity at the end of the film. Photographer and video artist Sammy Baloji gives the trees a voice with poetic text and immersive soundscapes. Divided into three chapters, the cinematic essay critically examines Belgium's colonial past and the ecological significance of the DR Congo today.
