Big break with Ayse Klinge and Anna Setecki - workshop discussion about kids of color in children's books for teachers, parents and interested parties

"Mischievous unicorns, adventurous snails, clumsy ghosts - they can all be protagonists in picture books as a matter of course. But what about people of color, are they just as naturally placed at the center?" asks author and literary activist Chantal-Fleur Sandjon. A look at German-language children's books shows that they mainly feature white main characters, while Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPoC) are secondary characters. The multidiverse reality in which children in Germany live looks different.

Illustrator and comic author Ayse Klinge talks to Anna Setecki, initiator of the Zuperzuper book case, which presents selected children's books at elementary school in Freiburg, about the importance of everyday stories, Black role models and empowerment.
