Helmut Lörscher Trio - Live 2023
Sunday, 25/02/2024 / 08:00 PM / Jazzhaus (Jazz house) Freiburg
The jazz trio around the Freiburg pianist and university professor Helmut Lörscher (with Bernd Heitzler, bass and Matthias Daneck, drums) stands for chamber music jazz in lively, dense interplay, in which elements of classical music are also reflected in jazz style. With the programs badinerie- reflections in jazz and tristanesque the musicians succeeded in a profound and imaginative examination of the music of J.S. Bach and Richard Wagner, highly praised by the specialist press and performed at prominent venues such as Beethovenfest Bonn and Haus Wahnfried in Bayreuth.
Helmut Lörscher is also well known to the Freiburg audience for his solo improvisations on themes from various epochs of music history given to him on call.
At Jazzhaus Freiburg, the musicians will present their new program triosonate -chamber jazz explorations, which centers on the large-scale Sonata à tre, a composition in classical three-movement sonata form for jazz trio (!), with extensive fully composed parts and equally available spaces for lively improvisation. The attraction (and the challenge) is the illustration of the classical sonata form - including the typical motivic processing techniques - with the means of a genuinely different musical language: jazz.
The Sonata à tre is complemented by other original compositions (including Silver City, a homage to the "silver city of Freiburg", which emerged from the trio's collaboration with the cabaret artist Matthias Deutschmann and his program "Freiburg leuchtet") as well as arrangements, in which joy of playing, groove and lively chamber music communication always go hand in hand with all the technical sophistication of the compositions.
The audience can expect vital modern jazz, profound and sometimes humorous at the same time.
