Historical fallout - On the military history of the Anthropocene

Free entry

The extent to which military activities continue to shape the planet today is the focus of a lecture evening at Theater Freiburg. On Thursday, January 29 at 5.30 pm, Augsburg environmental historian Simone Müller will be a guest at Theater Freiburg's Kleines Haus.

In her research, Simone Müller impressively demonstrates why war and what remains of it are of central importance for understanding the Anthropocene. She establishes that military activities fundamentally and permanently change our planet. From this she draws the conclusion that an adequate understanding of the Anthropocene is unthinkable without the inclusion of military actors and their activities.

The audience is invited to the lecture at 5.30 p.m. and then has the opportunity to attend the thematically related musical theater "Doctor Atomic" by John Adams and Peter Sellars at 7.30 p.m.. After the performance, there will also be an opportunity to talk to Simone Müller and the theater team.

Free admission to the lecture, free choice of seats, registration is not required. Tickets for the performance of "Doctor Atomic" at 7.30 pm can be purchased in advance at the theater box office.

The event is part of the series "On Life in the Anthropocene" of the Catholic Academy Freiburg in cooperation with the Günther Anders Research Center, the Studium generale of the University campus Freiburg and the Theater Freiburg.
