Jean-Baptiste Monnot is the titular organist of the legendary Cavaillé-Coll organ at the Saint-Ouen Abbey Church in Rouen - one of the most important instruments in French organ culture.
Born in France in 1984, he began studying piano and organ at the age of twelve. His musical career led him via the music school in Dieppe and the conservatory in Rouen - where he received several awards - to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. There he studied in the renowned organ class of Olivier Latry and Michel Bouvard and graduated with highest honors. Further studies with Bernhard Haas in Stuttgart and participation in Jean Guillou's master classes - including at the Tonhalle Zurich and the Saint-Eustache church in Paris - had a significant impact on his artistic development. From 2004 to 2014, he worked as Jean Guillou's assistant at Saint-Eustache in Paris.
He also attracted international attention as an interpreter of Jean Guillou's incidental music for Macbeth in Japan (Kyoto, Nagoya) and as Artist in Residence at Saint Louis Cathedral in New Orleans.
In addition to his busy concert schedule, Jean-Baptiste Monnot has been involved in the international training of young organists since 2016 with an annual masterclass at the organ of Saint-Ouen. In 2019, he founded the Festival des Orgues Cavaillé-Coll, which is dedicated to cultivating the French organ heritage. He is also the creator of L'orgue du Voyage, an innovative, modular and portable pipe organ.
