The award-winning trumpeter and composer Jakob Bänsch is one of the rising stars of the European jazz scene and has already been compared to the young Wynton Marsalis by the famous jazz critic Bill Milkowski. In April 2023 he released his eagerly awaited debut album Opening, "Powerful, confidently following in the footsteps of the classical masters of his field" (Süddeutsche Zeitung).
Growing up as the son of classical musicians near Pforzheim, he began playing piano and trumpet at an early age, immersed himself in classical music and played in several orchestras before discovering jazz at the age of 12. Now Jakob Bänsch plays with his quartet in the most renowned jazz venues throughout Germany and has worked with international jazz greats such as Nils Landgren, Bob Mintzer, Wolfgang Haffner, Billy Hart, Emil Mangelsdorff and the WDR Big Band.
At a young age he was a member of the Bundesjazzorchester and the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy and was awarded the soloist prize of the Munich Jazz Prize in 2022. On his debut album Jakob presents his own music together with his quartet, which is a combination of lyrical melodies, virtuosic jazz, spherical soundscapes as well as symphonic and classical elements.
