Jenůfa

Book tickets

It is too narrow in their world. Conventions, maxims, pronouncements, rigid ideas and views are everywhere, erected like invisible walls of steel, making life impossible for Jenůfa. The great longing for independent, self-determined action can become an obsessive thought. In Janáček's music, the unformulated thoughts that never see the light of day exist just as much as those that are deprived of their existence as soon as they are born. Like Jenůfa's child. Janáček suffers with Jenůfa at her incomprehensible loss - and exudes so much empathy and sensitivity that is rarely experienced even in the emotionally charged art form of opera.
