Johann Peter Salomon Hiskias - An almost forgotten oratorio

The oratorio "Hiskias" from 1779 appears in Johann Peter Salomon's catalog of works. This discovery aroused our curiosity in two respects: the violinist, conductor and composer Salomon was personally acquainted with both Beethoven and Haydn and became an important driving force in musical life in England; today he is rather unknown. Similarly, there are only a few oratorios with the biblical figure of King Hezekiah as the title character.

It is not known whether the oratorio was ever performed. Perhaps our concert will not only be the first performance in Freiburg, but rather a belated premiere?
