Book tickets"Come, make haste and run" - these are the first words of the chorus in Bach's Easter Oratorio BWV 249, with whose lively Easter joy the Freiburg Chamber Choir under the direction of Lukas Grimm will open this year's spring concert. As the biblical figures Mary Magdalene (Hanna Ross, alto), Mary Jacobi (Anne Schneider, soprano), Peter (Luis Denzel, tenor) and John (Torsten Meyer, bass), four vocal soloists narrate the world-changing events without any evangelists, while the choir rushes to the empty tomb like the disciples - Bach seems to have taken great pleasure in the material, as this vividly permeates every note.
In his great cantata BWV 21 "Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis", he composes the timeless promise of salvation that emerges from the Easter events just as comprehensively: from the initial sighing to the fundamental redemption, he created a masterpiece of vocal polyphony that is in no way inferior to his great compositions.
The composer Joey Tan, born in Singapore in 1997, was commissioned to compose a short intermezzo for the Freiburg Chamber Orchestra, which performs on baroque instruments and will enrich the ears and spirit as a catalyst between the two Bach works.
