Armenia and Ossip Mandelstam | Music, lecture and reading with Ralph Dutli
Friday, 24/10/2025 / 08:00 PM / Humboldt Hall at the Freiburger Hof
Music, lecture and reading with Ralph Dutli and string quartet
Works by Ruben Altunyan, Komitas Vardapest and Aram Khachaturian
It is already a tradition: every October, Freiburg commemorates the great Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva (1892-1941), who spent a year of her youth here and can be considered one of the greatest mediators of German-Russian culture. Tsvetaeva is linked to her contemporary Ossip Mandelstam (1891-1938) not only by her love of Germany, European cultures and her bitter experiences under the Stalinist dictatorship, but also by her radical commitment to the power of poetry.
Ossip Mandelstam's autobiographical texts about his journey to Armenia (1930) and his lyrical texts celebrate the momentary triumph of life over the forces of destruction and death; at the same time, these works draw us into the maelstrom of Armenia's fascinating culture.
