Klaus Gauger reads from his book "My Schizophrenia"

Klaus Gauger fell ill with paranoid schizophrenia in 1994 at the age of 29. In his book "Meine Schizophrenie" (Herder Verlag 2021, updated new edition), he tells the story of his escalating madness with unsparing candor, which ultimately led him on a wild journey around the globe between 2010 and 2014.

He takes a stand against the taboo surrounding the illness and, last but not least, this book is a plea for a more humane psychiatry. Klaus Gauger has been working as a recovery assistant on Ward 6 in the Rollerhaus at ZfP Emmendingen since 2018.
